Do you want your smile to have more flair? Does it not have the youthful appearance you’d like?
Dimpleplasty may be the path to the smile you’ve always wanted. In this day and age cheek dimples have become a facial quality envied by people all over the world. If you’ve ever wondered how dimples would look on your face, keep reading to see if this simple procedure is right for you.

What is Dimpleplasty?

This cosmetic surgery is a fairly simple procedure that creates soft, natural-looking dimples on your face.

Dimples are the subtle indents formed beyond the corners of some people’s mouths when they smile. Not everyone is born with this trait and others have only acquired it through an injury. Dimpleplasty procedures have increased significantly over recent years due to being regarded as a sign of beauty, fortune, and good luck in some cultures. This facial cosmetic surgery is an outpatient procedure typically done in your surgeon’s office.

Steps of Cheek Dimple Surgery

The first step in creating cheek dimples is for the surgeon to apply a topical anesthetic to your cheeks. It usually takes around 10 minutes to numb the area. Numbing ensures you feel no pain or discomfort during your surgery.

Next your surgeon will create the hole that will soon be your new dimple. Your doctor will use a small biopsy instrument to make a small hole and remove an insignificant amount of muscle and fat.

After creating the site of your new dimples a suture will be run from one side of the cheek muscle to the other. Upon tightening the suture in place, the dimple is formed. The entire procedure takes about 30 minutes and you can resume normal activity within two days after your surgery.

Recovery Following Facial Cosmetic Surgery

Over the coming weeks, the sutures used to anchor your new cheek dimples will dissolve. During this time your new dimples will be fairly prominent, whether you’re smiling or not. This will subside as the site heals and the dimples relax into their natural position. Afterwards, your dimples will only be seen when you smile.

Mild swelling is not uncommon for patients of this cosmetic procedure but the swelling usually subsides in only a few days. Application of ice packs can help reduce any swelling that occurs.

Complications are not very common with a dimpleplasty. However, as with any cosmetic plastic surgery, you may run the risk of possible complications including: excessive bleeding at the site of the procedure, facial nerve damage, infection, and scarring. If you experience any excessive bleeding you should contact your doctor immediately as you may have an infection.

Are You Interested in Having a Dimpleplasty?

If you have admired the look of cheek dimples and would like to enhance your smile, a dimpleplasty can help. Ideal patients are in good general health and are able to undergo minor surgery. Check with your doctor to see if cosmetic facial surgery is right for you.
