What is a Facelift?
A facelift, or rhytidectomy, addresses the area from the cheekbones down to the chin area, and includes the neck. This procedure addresses sagging in the cheeks and jowls, improves the appearance of the deep folds from the nose to the mouth, removes loose skin and fat under the chin and tightens sagging in the neck.
A facelift does not address bags under the eyes or the frown lines between the brows. For this, patients can consider having a brow lift as part of their rejuvenation plan.
Something else to consider is that a facelift does not handle skin texture issues, such acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles, or uneven skin tone. For these issues Dr. Torkian can offer skin resurfacing techniques to put the finishing touches on your facelift.
Will I Look Like I’ve Had Work Done?
The hallmark of an exquisite face lift is that you look more energetic and refreshed and on a deeply personal level, that your face is a reflection of how you feel inside.
Modern techniques in facial surgery focus on lifting and positioning the underlying muscles that have sagged over time, gently positioning the skin after this has been done.
Stretching the skin to smooth out wrinkles or folds is not something that any board certified plastic surgeon would do. Dr. Torkian is not only board certified in facial and reconstructive surgery, but has also been board certified in head and neck surgery. As a result of his extensive training and experience, he has the skill to provide patients of all ages with natural, beautiful results that aren’t obviously the result of surgery.
Will the Scars be Visible?
Dr. Torkian places the incisions in areas that can be concealed after surgery. The incisions are placed behind the ears and well hidden in the hairline. A scar will always result from any incision and it is in skill of closing that many plastic and reconstructive surgeons make their reputations. Dr. Torkian has studied under some of the finest surgeon’s in the country to hone his skills in this crucial step of cosmetic surgery. Once the scars have had time to fully resolve, only you will know they are there.
