Neck Lift Beverly Hills Procedure

Your neck lift procedure can be done alone or in conjunction with a facelift. Since the face and neck are seen together, it is unusual to treat one area without doing some rejuvenation on the other.

There are cases where the neck ages much faster than the face and for those patients a neck lift alone may create harmony between face and neck.

There are three procedures that can be used in the neck. For patients with fullness under the chin and through the neck, liposuction is used. The best results of liposuction only treatment is obtained in patients with very good skin elasticity.

Patients who have fullness in the neck as well as laxness in the skin will also need a neck lift to tighten the skin after the fat has been removed.

Incision placement

Most patients are rightfully concerned about scars following any cosmetic procedure, particularly around the face and neck.

It is impossible to hide poor surgical technique in these areas. Dr. Torkian is a double board certified facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon.

He plans his incisions very carefully to take advantage of folds in the skin or other areas where the resulting scars will be virtually invisible.

For our neck lift procedure, incisions are placed behind each ear and sometimes under the chin. The incisions are as small as possible and are closed using a specific multi layered technique that distributes tension so the incision heals in a thin flat line.

This technique ensures that once the incisions are healed and the scars have fully resolved, it is virtually impossible to see any evidence of surgery.

Neck Lift Beverly Hills Surgery Recovery

Surgery is done on an outpatient basis using general anesthesia in most cases. Patients will wake from surgery with a supportive band around the chin and head as well as a compression garment over the neck.

This will help with swelling and will ensure that the muscles and skin begin to heal properly. There may be drainage tubes placed to ensure fluid does not build up.

Patients can recover at home or at a recovery center, if they flew into Los Angeles for treatment. For the first few days, patients need an assistant to ensure their comfort and safety.

Pain medication is provided as well as instructions on how to bathe, the most comfortable way to eat and how to sleep.

It is important to keep the head elevated for the first week or so. Sleeping in a recliner is recommended or placing several pillows under the shoulders and head to create an elevation in the bed.

The first stage of recovery is accomplished in a few weeks for most patients, with the first few days being the most challenging. The neck will feel tight for a few weeks due to swelling but the acute stage of early recovery usually lasts about 48 hours.

Returning to work and usual activities will depend on the specific circumstances of each patient. During preoperative, visits this issue will be discussed so patients can arrange for the proper amount of time from work.

Dr. Torkian will schedule postoperative visits to check on healing and progress. If there are drains placed they will usually be removed at the first visit when the incisions are checked.

There will be some bruising and swelling as healing progresses. Bruising will fade after a week and the swelling will come and go as healing progresses.

Patients should expect to experience fluctuations in how they heal over the first few weeks.

Dr. Torkian provides complete instructions to his patients so they can prepare for surgery and recovery and know what to expect.

If at any time patients have specific questions or concerns, he encourages them to call the office.
