Your skin type is an important factor on the skin treatments that would work for you. The products you should put on your face, food that you should eat, and the food that you shouldn’t are all dependent on the type of skin you possess.

However, there are more decisions that can be made here. The best plastic surgeons will tell you that even the kind of cosmetic and plastic surgery procedures that you should undergo is determined by this metric.

In this article, we’ll focus on the different skin types and available skin treatment options that can help improve their texture and solve problems that are exclusive to that skin type.

What Type of Skin Do I Have?

“What is my skin type?” This is a question which, most likely, every person has sought the answer to at least once in their lives. Thankfully, there are ways in which you can determine the same.

Essentially, there are five different types of skin: dry skin, oily skin, combination skin, normal skin, and sensitive skin. Each one of these has its own sets of unique characteristics, benefits, and challenges.

But, in addition to the above, you also have to take into account skin adjustments as a result of aging. So, we are going to make a sixth category of skin type and term it as aging skin.

We’ll discuss the skin types in greater detail below and talk about the procedures you can opt for to banish related skin problems.

Dry Skin

You have dry skin if you see the following symptoms:

  • Your complexion has become rough and dull
  • The pores on your face are almost invisible
  • Your skin is covered in red patches
  • With every passing day, you see more visible lines on your face
  • Your skin is losing its elasticity

The biggest issue with dry skin is it tends to become inflamed, itchy and irritated, making it prone to cracking or peeling. Genetics, hormonal changes, elemental damage, long showers, and harmful ingredients in your cosmetics and cleansers can make the situation worse.

We recommend hydration with a hyaluronic acid cream or gel, moisturization at nighttime, drinking plenty of water, and limiting retinol use. Drinking plenty of water is also important. While these are excellent ways to reduce these issues, you can also opt for a face rejuvenation procedure.

Skin rejuvenation can be performed with many safe techniques such as microneedling, Clear and Brilliant laser treatment, chemical peeling, and even injection of hyaluronic acid under the skin.  These procedures can be extremely helpful to restore a youthful appearance to your face. This will help to combat pigmentation marks, dullness, and even fine lines. As you might have realized, these are the most common issues associated with dry skin.

Oily Skin

You have oily skin if you see the following symptoms:

  • Your complexion might either be too shiny or too dull
  • You have large pores all over your face
  • You have an acne-prone skin that is always covered in blemishes such as blackheads and pimples

Hormonal imbalances, and too much stress and humidity are some of the major reasons that your skin starts secreting too much oil. You can take care of oily skin by avoiding too much scrubbing, not picking your pimples, and looking for non-comedogenic skincare products.

Oily skin owners can be helped with treatments such as lasers, chemical peels, salicylic acid,  retinol, or Retin-A treatment, and more. Those with acne scars may qualify for an acne scar treatment that will help to improve and repair the scarred tissue. As their skin is subjected to acne most of the time, they often have a splattering of scars on the face and other parts of their body.

Acne scar treatment can either be a resurfacing procedure such dermabrasion, chemical peel, laser treatment, or microneedling treatment, or it can be proper surgery.  Acne scar surgery involves lifting the scar tissue to make it less noticeable.

Combination Skin

You have combination skin if you see the following symptoms:

  • You have blackheads
  • Your skin is shiny all the time and that has large pores

Mostly combination skin owners have an oily T-zone on that includes your nose, forehead, and chin. When you have too much oil, it often days to pore-clogging which is the main reason for blackheads. You can use exfoliation procedures or chemical peels for removing blackheads.

Salicylic acid, for example, is a chemical that exfoliates the skin gently and will remove all blackheads. You can also get these blemishes removed by a trained esthetician as well.

Sensitive Skin

You have sensitive skin if you see the following symptoms:

  • You find uneven redness on your face
  • You feel a burning or itching sensation most of the time
  • Your skin feels too dry

Sensitive skin always needs to be handled with care as anything too harsh can act as triggers. For this purpose, you need to be very particular with your skincare products. Face care becomes important which is why you should steer clear of chemical peels that use acidic ingredients such as glycolic acid, benzoyl peroxide, and so on.

You can try opting for facial treatments that have a moisturizing effect on your skin and are emollient-rich to soothe it.

Normal Skin

If you have normal skin, you won’t really find any issues with no severe sensitivity, bright complexion, and barely seen pores. You can opt for the usual skin brightening facials. Also, you are quite lucky as you don’t have to face most of the skin issues!

Aging Skin

If you have ever visited a plastic surgery clinic, you must have found that most of the patients want to prolong the aging process and hence, are looking for suitable options. For this, your options include facelift surgery, neck lift, or even upper eyelid surgery.

You can also go for nonsurgical procedures such as Botox and fillers, instalift, and so on.

The Final Verdict

These are some of the procedures that you can opt for depending on your skin type. You should always try to research as much as you can before settling on a procedure. Joining a plastic surgery group could also be a good source.

Nevertheless, these procedures can definitely be helpful to give your skin a new lease of life.
