Dr. Behrooz Torkian, MD, performs septoplasty in Beverly Hills for patients whose deviated septum makes breathing through their nose harder than it should be — especially when nighttime congestion, recurring sinus issues, or one-sided obstruction has become part of daily life.
What Is Septoplasty?
Septoplasty is a surgical procedure that straightens a deviated nasal septum, the wall of bone and cartilage that divides the nasal cavity into two airways. When that wall is bent, twisted, or off-center, one or both nasal passages narrow. Airflow drops. Patients may notice chronic congestion, unilateral obstruction, mouth breathing at night, frequent sinus infections, or noisy breathing during exercise.
The procedure happens entirely inside the nose. Dr. Torkian makes a small incision on the inside of one nostril, lifts the lining off the underlying septum, and reshapes or removes the deviated portions of cartilage and bone. The lining returns to its position before closure. There's no external scar. The shape of the nose from the outside doesn't change.
